Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger is a football figure that is consistently being targeted for criticism and this due to a number of different reasons, one of those reasons is because of the persistent injuries that the players of Arsenal endure and the training regime of Wenger could be why the squad of the Premier League club is always being bombarded with injuries.

It wasn’t until a few months ago that Arsenal managed to end their trophy drought of over 7 years with the team of Arsene Wenger being able to win a major piece of silverware thanks to a 3-2 victory over Hull City in the FA Cup finals.

However, even with all of the criticism that Wenger receives from his actions or questionable decisions the French manager is not afraid to let his mind in being heard and the latest statement that he released is making everyone headlines all over the world as Wenger called the Major League Soccer (MLS) a ‘’retirement league’’.

“You have two steps. Being completely at the top finishes when you are 34 at the latest. After that, you have different leagues like the MLS and the Indian league. I encourage players to play as long as possible if they really love it.” Arsene Wenger wrote on the official website of Arsenal.

The Major League Soccer is certainly not the center of the football world as the majority of the stars of the sport are playing in Europe but the American League has only been around for 19 years which is relatively new in comparison to other top leagues around the world that were created and founded over 50 years ago.

It has turned into a routine or a trend seeing more and more big name players who are reaching the last few years of their career making a move to the MLS with some of the latest examples of this trend being: Thierry Henry, Ricardo Kaka and Frank Lampard.

Henry has already made his way to the MLS and made a huge impact meanwhile Lampard and Kaka will be joining the American league in 2015.

Nonetheless, even though the statement of Arsene Wenger is indeed true and the MLS is mostly a league where renowned players join to end their careers, Wenger has received a lot of backlash with people suggesting that Wenger instead of talking about different leagues and teams, he should just focus on Arsenal and nothing else as Arsenal has not been going through the best of times recently and Wenger will have to collect positive results in the remaining matches of the year in order to have any hopes of securing a Champions League spot as the Premier League title already is well beyond the reach of Arsene Wenger and his team.
