ARSENAL: EMERY DESERVED MORE TIME

Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that Unai Emery deserved more time at the club. The current Villarreal manager Emery replaced Wenger when his lengthy spell as a manager in North London ended in the summer of 2018. Arsene Wenger ended his 22-year managerial stay at Arsenal at the end of the 2017/18 season.


Arsene Wenger talked about Unai Emery and his time at Arsenal while he was on BeIN Sports forthe Champions League semifinals.Ex-Sevilla, Valencia and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) manager Emery has earned a lot of plaudits in the Champions League this season after seeing off Juventus and Bayern Munich in the last 16 and quarterfinals respectively to lead Villarreal into the semifinals. Italian Serie A giants were beaten 4-1 on aggregate in the round of 16 before Bayern Munich fell 2-1 on aggregate in the round of eight.

In the semifinals,Villarreal gave Liverpool a big scare as underdogs especially in the second leg. In the end, Liverpool showed superiority to seal their place in the Champions League final at the expense of their Spanish opponents. In the first leg at Anfield, Villarreal were beaten 2-0 courtesy the goals from Pervis Estupinan (own goal) and Sadio Mane.Villarreal gave Liverpool a huge scare in the second leg at the El Madrigal when they drew level in the tie with two first half goals. Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin were the goalscorers for the Yellow Submarines in the first half of the second leg. Liverpool then scored three times in the second half through Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane to win the second leg 3-2 and seal a 5-2 aggregate victory thus booking their place in the final. Villarreal finished the second leg with a man some after French midfielder Etienne Capoue was given his marching orders for two yellow cards.
Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final after seeing off Villarreal in the semifinals.
