WENGER PLAYS DOWN TITLE HOPES
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side are still in the title race following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sunderland. The Gunners are now just two points behind second-placed Manchester United following the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.
It has been suggested that Wenger’s side have the easier run-in of the three title hopefuls, but the Frenchman is believes his team have to stay realistic.
Asked whether his side are back in the title race, Wenger said: "We are. But the only thing we can do is win our games and hope the others drop points. The top two will drop points because they play against each other. Everton have beaten Chelsea and Manchester United and there are plenty of teams where you can drop points.
"We have two fights, one is to get away as far as possible from the teams in fourth, fifth and sixth and the other is to get as close as possible to the top."
