Arsene Wenger promises spectacular signing

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has assured the disgruntled Arsenal fans the club is moving with its plans to bring a top class player on board ahead of the new season. The Gunners have so far failed to lure any top class to the club over the summer transfer window, having been linked to the likes of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney.

The club is set to formalize their £ 35 million bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez this week after being rebuffed with their earlier bid of £ 30 million. They also have a deal to sign the Argentine international Higuain with the personal terms agreed but Real Madrid are reluctant to budge over their asking price for the player.

Arsene Wenger also retains an interest in Manchester United target and former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas who left North London for Barcelona in 2011 with the first refusal on the player but many doubt whether the Frenchman will break the bank to sign a player he sold just two years back, no matter how much his affection for the player. So far, the club has only signed France Under-20 international Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer, raising fears that the club’s much talked about £ 70 million summer transfer budget will go without being spent, as has been the case in the last few seasons - when their most notable signing was a football canvas.

However, the Frenchman has insisted that the club is working in tying the loose ends of a spectacular signing that will be announced in due time. Arsene Wenger, who becomes the longest serving manager in the league after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson has reiterated that the club is doing its all to bring in top quality players to compete for the top prizes in England and in Europe.
